BaseX 13.0
Dear all,
Version 13 is here – the next major release of BaseX, our open-source XML framework, database engine, and XQuery 4.0 processor. A huge step forward: indexes are now always up to date, JSON can be queried with XPath, and the editor and the DBA have been redesigned. Along the way, we have hardened security throughout and made BaseX faster and leaner than ever.
This is what you get:
🗄️ Storage & Indexes - Always up to date: all indexes are maintained, including full-text - More concurrency: updating queries only write-lock what they update - Maintenance: segmented indexes, parallel reads, faster OPTIMIZE
🔍 Full-Text
- Updatable full-text index, faster fuzzy search
- Mixed content: indexing and highlighting across markup (FTMIXED)
- Thesauri: stored and indexed in databases, SKOS support
🌐 Web, GUI & Formats - Redesigned DBA, WebDAV is back as an XQuery application - RESTXQ web archives, HTTP QUERY method, official Docker images - New editor: code completion, multiple cursors, formatting - New HTTP Client, JSON Lines, TAR, Zstandard and XZ archives
✨ XQuery 4.0 - JNodes: navigate JSON with XPath – json-doc(…)//city - New functions: from JSON/XML conversion to schema validation - Destructuring: bind sequences, arrays and maps to variables - Record type: maps with fixes entries
⚙️ Jobs & Evaluation - Function items instead of query strings: no code injection - Cron scheduling, with timeout, memory and permission limits - Memoization of function results, parallel iteration
🚀 Performance - Joins: repeatedly filtered sequences are indexed on the fly - Memory: compact maps, elements and integer sequences - Node construction: no copies when results are serialized
🔐 Security
- Salted authentication, PBKDF2 password hashes, login protection
- Untrusted code, external resources only on request (TRUSTEXTERNAL)
- Revised permissions, modern cryptography (AES-GCM, RSA, SHA-2)
