Creating a Basex database directly from tarred XML?

Hello all, Is there a known workaround for creating a db from tarred XML using the Database -> New menu? I can always untar the tarfile first, but it would be sort-of nice just to point at the tarfile and load. TIA, Constantine ________________________________ Elsevier B.V. Hi Constantine, Currently, there is no such feature in BaseX, because Java does not come with tar support, but it could surely be added. I'll keep your suggestion in mind, and I'll give you an update if sth. is done in this direction. Christian Am 14.02.2014 14:56 schrieb "Hondros, Constantine (ELS-AMS)" < C.Hondros at elsevier.com>:

Hi Constantine, The latest BaseX snapshot now supports the import of (uncompressed) tar files [1]. Your feedback is welcome, Christian [1] http://files.basex.org/releases/latest/

...some more news: gzipped tar files (.tgz) are now supported as well. Hope this helps, Christian

Hi Christian, I have downloaded the latest snapshot and confirm that it works exactly as I had imagined. Many thanks for your quick attention to my query! I have an odd issue that a few files - out of hundreds of thousands - that are imported from the tarred archives consistently cause an XML syntax error to be thrown, requiring me to use the 'skip corrupt files' option. I can't get to the bottom of this, as the files themselves are valid once I inspect them. Tarring them individually leads to no error on import. Importing them after extraction also causes no error. If you are interested, I can make an example available to you. Kind regards, Constantine Hondros

Yes, please do so (you can send me the example, or the data to access it, in private). Christian

Hi ! I really like this feature. Unfortunately, BaseX only recognizes .tgz, but not .tar.gz files. That's no big deal, but it would be nice to work oob with .tar.gz files too, without the need to prior rename the files to .tgz Best regards Michael Sievers 2014-02-19 23:49 GMT+01:00 Christian Grün <christian.gruen at gmail.com>:
