Hi, BaseX Team.
In recent days, I've been seeing many sporadic issues when a GitHub Actions process tries to download BaseX. Errors look like this one from https://github.com/xspec/xspec/actions/runs/33736678541/job/100588783902 :
[get] Error getting https://files.basex.org/releases/12.4/BaseX124.zip to C:\Users\RUNNER~1\AppData\Local\Temp\basex_deleteonexit_448872441.zip
The message above is on Windows, but the problem isn't OS-specific.
The problem eventually resolves when I rerun the job one or more times, but having to do that multiple times in a day is getting to be a hassle. One strange thing is that when I clicked the link manually, it worked -- even close to the time that the automated process reported the error.
Does anyone know what is going on?
Thanks,
Amanda

Hi Amanda,
That’s good to know. As far as I can see, your pipeline is working again. Please send us a signal if it happens again.
Best,
Christian

Christian,
Thanks for your response, but I don't think it is working again. A Sep 5 pull request failed twice and finally passed on the third try. The successful retries mask the problem. https://github.com/xspec/xspec/actions/runs/33964360538
Today's pull request failed in 2 out of 14 runs in the main repo and 3 out of 14 runs in my fork. https://github.com/xspec/xspec/actions/runs/34140588042/job/101801448689 https://github.com/galtm/xspec/actions/runs/34140740643
Best,
Amanda

Hi Amanda,
it's Michael from BaseX.
Christian and I just talked about how your requests were failing again. I suspect our hosting company might be blocking requests that it thinks are from automated crawlers or bots. To better handle these kinds of patterns, we set up a CDN.
If you could retry your failed pipelines, it would be interesting to see if this helped solve this issue.
Best wishes from Konstanz
Michael

Michael and Christian,
Thank you very much for your help!
The initial signs are good -- all 5 retries (2 in main repo, 3 in my fork) worked. I'll keep an eye on this in the next several days, too.
Best regards,
Amanda

Thanks again! Your fix seems to be working well: in the last few days, an additional 8 jobs, each with 14 configurations, all successfully downloaded BaseX. It's a relief not to have to keep such a close eye on the need to rerun things.
Best regards,
Amanda
