Bug#704590: basexgui: cannot enter search strings

$ rm -r .basexgui BaseXData .basex
$ basexgui /usr/share/doc/basex/examples/input.xml&

The window is cut into four squares. Each square has a magnifying glass, which upon clicking reveals a text entry line. But try as he might, the user cannot enter any text into those lines. Nor even the biggest line at the top of the window.
