Welcome to the Query Portal, which is one of the main sections of this documentation. Here you can find more information on performing XPath and XQuery requests. Apart from standard features, BaseX offers numerous extensions, which are listed on this page.

Overview

XQuery Functions

Module Description Prefix Namespace URI
Database Accessing the database and indexes. db http://basex.org/db
File File handling, based on the upcoming new version of the EXPath File module. file http://expath.org/ns/file
Full-Text Functions for performing full-text operations. ft http://basex.org/ft
HTTP Sending HTTP requests, based on the EXPath HTTP module. http http://expath.org/ns/http-client
Map Handling of map structures, based on a preliminary W3C Working Draft. map http://www.w3.org/2005/xpath-functions/map
Math Mathematical operations, extending the W3C Working Draft. math http://www.w3.org/2005/xpath-functions/math
Utility Testing and profiling functions. util http://basex.org/util
ZIP ZIP functionality, based on the EXPath ZIP module. zip http://expath.org/ns/zip

Note that all namespace URIs are statically bound in BaseX, i.e., they need not be declared in the query prolog. All XQuery 3.0 functions are listed in the XQuery 3.0 Functions and Operators draft; we have added a list of all new functions that are already supported by BaseX.

Indexes

Queries will be analyzed and optimized for index access on the fly.
